ASUS has recently launched a photography-centric smartphone which was ASUS Zenfone Zoom S with a dual rear camera. This device sports a 5.5-inch display and comes with a Snapdragon 625 processor.

The device we have got has 64GB Internal storage and comes with 4GB of RAM. The good thing about this smartphone is the battery capacity, Similar to Zenfone Max this device carries a 5,000 mAh battery which helps you to keep running the device for a little more time than another smartphone with low battery capacity. We have a chance to get our hands on the Zenfone Zoom S device and in this article, we will share our opinion, pros, and cons that we think about this smartphone.

Overview

This device seems good to hold and lightweight at first impression. Its metal body on the front side, holds the camera, earpiece, sensors, and capacitive buttons at the bottom.Zenfone Zoom S Front Image

On the back side of this smartphone, you get a dual rear camera with dual-tone flash in the top left corner. You will get a square rounded fingerprint sensor at the center of the upper part. At the bottom, you will see ASUS branding on the back side.

Display

If we talk about the display of this Zenfone Zoom S, it’s powered by a 5.5-inch AMOLED panel with Full HD resolution. Also, it sports a 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5 screen. It has a good viewing angle and is responsive to touch smoothly. There is no physical home button on the device, but you can configure it to wake up when you double-tap on the screen. Also on the side of the body of this smartphone, you will see a shiny metal band running around it.

Camera

If we talk about the camera of the Zoom S device, it comes with a dual rear camera that has 12MP with f/1.7 aperture and a Sony IMX362 sensor. We have tried recording full HD video using this device for up to 20-25 minutes, it shows the camera has stopped the error and we have lost the created recording. However it was just for testing purposes, but still if you are planning to record long videos using this smartphone, make sure you have a backup camera as well.

The rear camera can be able to zoom upto 2.3 x optical zoom and 12x total zoon while the front-facing selfie camera comes with a 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

Hardware & Storage

If we talk about the hardware side of this smartphone, this device has a Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0 GHZ & coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. It comes with 4GB RAM & 64GB internal storage memory that can be expandable up to 2TB memory. Out of 64GB of internal memory, the user’s available memory is around 50GB approx. Do you think, you need more storage than this? If yes, you can set a microSD card in the hybrid SIM tray in case you need more storage.

This thing is combined with a 5000 mAh battery, so you can expect this smartphone to run for 1 or more than 1 day on moderate usage on a single charge.

Software & performance

Zenfone Zoom S device which we have got was loaded with Android 7.1.1 Nougat with ZenUI 4.0 version. We tried a fingerprint scanner on this device and it seems faster than expected. Also, we have seen no lag on moderate gaming & does not heat. But we felt it heated when shooting video from this device.

Connectivity & Battery

If we talk about the connectivity of this device, this smartphone is a Dual SIM 4G smartphone. Just like other smartphones, you will get WiFi, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm earphone jack, USB Type-C port. It has loaded with a 5000 mAh non-removable battery so you can expect this device to run up to more than 1 day in a single charge.
