Whatsapp is Rolling Out Whatsapp Payment in India

WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging service all over the world and so many users are using this. You can send voice messages, text messages, video messages, video calls or voice calls over WhatsApp and you only need to have an active internet connection for this.

Now Whatsapp is rolling out a WhatsApp payment system in India, that will allow users to send or receive money using WhatsApp. This feature is currently in beta and can be activated only by using an invitation. Even if you are a beta tester for WhatsApp, you might not see this update on your WhatsApp account. It has not been publically announced and you can only get this option activated using an invitation only.

Whatsapp has been actively working on a payment feature that will take advantage of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) and it will also support most of the popular banks in India including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank State Bank of India, and many more.

How to use WhatsApp payment Feature:

You must be invited by the person who has the WhatsApp payment feature enabled on their mobile. Once this feature has been activated on your WhatsApp account, you will start seeing the Payment icon on your attachment place. Steps to add your bank on Whatsapp payment using UPI:

You must have the WhatsApp payment feature enabled to add your bank account for WhatsApp Payment.

  • Tap on the attachment icon beside any of your WhatsApp contacts
  • You will see the Payment button, Tap on it to proceed further
  • You will see the send and Receive Money Securely page, select Accept & continue
  • It will ask for text message verification

It will send a text message from your smartphone to verify it.

Activate WhatsApp Payment Feature

Once you verify it, you will see a list of banks from India. Select the bank where your savings or current accounts are there. It will automatically detect your bank account number and show you the bank details there. Just tap on it and your bank account will be added to your WhatsApp UPI payment option.

You will also see a payment option on your WhatsApp account setting, to select or add more banks on your WhatsApp account. There are many payment services like Paytm, Google Tez, Truecaller, and Hike and now WhatsApp has been added to this list.
